‘Coming to Gravesham’ is a project which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Kent Equality Cohesion Council. The project is being lead by Gurvinder Sandher, the Director of Kent Equality Council and a team of researchers led by Sharanjit Boora and supported by Parm Kalsi, Cllr. Makhan Singh and Kartar Singh Kingra; as well as an Advisory Group which is made up of local community partners including:

  • Gravesham Borough Council
  • Gravesend Library
  • Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara
  • Asian Retired Peoples Association
  • Gravesham and Dartford Muslim Association
  • Asian Women’s Group

The aim of the project is to create a book and exhibition, about the memories of early migrants who moved to the Borough of Gravesham from the Indian subcontinent between 1940 and 1969.

Our plan is to launch the book ‘Coming to Gravesham’ late 2010.
